So I can draw & visually separate two chains of user needs.
Might be ok if this is automatic when there are two starting points (I.e. two user:needs). 
Two chains might result in 3 colors: chainA, chainB, shared components.

The newest version of MapScript supports customizing stroke and fill for components. Would something like this fit your needs?
